Ok, so I started this one hat to test this pattern.  I have just started doing the sides, but it still looks like a giant yarn doily, as it is ruffly!!  So, has anyone else run into this problem?  Could I have misinterpreted the pattern, or does this usually happen when making hats and it all comes out ok at the end?  I haven't made a hat in so long, I forgot what happens towards the end!

Knit or crochet?  If it is knit, perhaps you can PM me the link to the hat pattern.  If it is crochet, I'm not your girl to ask.

yeah, it's crochet.  I found the pattern on ravelry, under the hats/crochet section, it's the yellow Pretty Puffs Slouchy Hat.

Oooh, I do love that hat, I have seen it before, but I'm definitely no help on pattern issues.

I thought I had that SAME problem! I worked and worked on a child's hat for three days and with the increasing that I was doing in each round, the half doubles started to turn in on themselves and ruffle. The problem was solved when I saw the hat was the right size and started decreasing. I did some fast decreasing rows and made the last one the circumference I thought his head should be. It turned out looking like those pumpkin candies but it is so, so cute on him. I'll upload a few of the pictures on my picture uploader and post them here. I was going to make a post but I took ten or so pictures and my friend has to send me the pictures of the hat on him.

Adorably though, he kept taking it off and handing it to me. He has not yet mastered the hat as a whole but I love him anyway,  Tongue Grin !!!

Here's how mine turned out. I can't speak for whether it'll work on your pattern but I have faith it'll work itself out!!!
