i knitted this slightly modified version from the Laminaria Shawl pattern from knitty..

Pics all the pics i have are from when it was pinned while blocking...

it is made with a circular size 5 needle and Gloss Lace yarn in bare from www.knitpicks.com. The pattern is great, and i really enjoyed knitting it. i've also made another for an aunt.

i live far away from my friend, so when she told me she was getting married i wanted to make her something special for her big day. i showed her some things i'd made, and we discussed what she was gonna wear. i showed her the pattern and some photos of other peoples versions of this shawl.. she loved it, so i went ahead and made it for her. she then told me she had brought her date forward to just 3 months notice!! so i knit as fast as my little hands could!! i then blocked it, packaged it, sent it to her, it arrived with few days to spare. she ADORES it, and so did everyone else. it looks lovely in the photos i've seen from her special day. maybe i'll ask her if i can post one that shows the shawl on here. :O)

I sure hope you can get a pic from her. I saw the thumbnail and couldn't figure out what that was and when I clicked on it, my first thought was "Are you kidding me?" but in a great way. I don't know what blocking is, but I love it. The detail blows my mind.

I have a split personality, because you guys crack me up.  AND The best day I ever had was TODAY!

I'm going to have to look up blocking too, but this is amazing!  What a beautiful gift and I'm sure it will be treasured forever.... it should be!

I find joy in creating and helping others create not just jewelry and crafts but best of all, the life they want.

aww thanks.  Smiley blocking is where u wash or moisten your knitting then pull it and pin it shape and let it dry. Very good for most knitting, especially good for lace knitting, cos thats when it really gets beautiful and all the detail can be seen. here's a link for blocking a lace shawl...

Happy Holidays everyone!  Grin

You did a beautiful job, and she must have loved it because wearing it would be like being surrounded by your love and good wishes - what a very special gift.  I would love to see a picture of her wearing it!
