Hi ladies and gents, I have a question.
Last winter one of my very good friends made these cookies she called cheekies/cheekys (not sure how they spelled it) Allegedly it was a recipe from the Aunt of a friend of a friend or something (yeah, haha, one of those!) HEr family is big on their Polish roots, so it miiiight be a Polish cookie. Anywho, our close friendship dissolved a few months ago (no longer speaking) and I never got the recipe.
They were soooo good! I think there was cream cheese involved in the dough. You roll the dough out and cut it into rectangles. Then you make a slit longways down the center of the cookie (not cutting through either end!) You pick up the cookie and pull one end through the slit, so it forms a pretty little twist (think topsy-tail hair style of the 1990's) Bake and then dust with powdered sugar. Thats all. I remember she said they were supposed to be thinner than she made them so they would be crisper. I loved the thicker ones though. Almost like a really yummy pie crust? Or maybe its like kolache dough? I have no clue. If anyone has a clue what I'm talking about it will be a very merry Christmas for the cookie monsters I live with! Thanks!

What you said about pulling one end through the slit and making a funny-shaped cookie reminded me of some we made about 10 years ago! They were crisp and dipped in powdered sugar while still hot. They might have been fried first, though.
I'll try and find out what they were called and how we made them.

I have lots of white pillow feathers to get rid of. PM me if you are in Britain and would like some!

I am from a polish background and I think you might mean KRUSCHICKI cookies. My grandmother always made them with left over pie dough and she would make them at Christmas time. Sorry I do not have a recipe but you should find something if you Google it. A girl at work brought them in and her family is greek so I do not know the origin. Good Luck!

Apparantly the ones I remember were called FARFALLETTE and I looked up a recipe for them, but I don't think they're the ones you mean. However, this recipe doesn't look quite right for the ones I remember either and we might have a better one at home.

1/2 ts Orange flavoring
1 ts Almond flavoring
2 tb Butter, - softened
6 Eggs
3 c Flour
1 ts Salt
Oil, for frying

1/2 c Lard, softened
Oil, for frying
6 c Flour
6 Eggs
3 tb Granulated sugar
2 tb Baking powder
1/4 c Sugar
1/4 ts Salt

*Beat eggs, sugar, salt and flavorings; place flour on board, cut in butter; add eggs and knead until s smooth ball; if dough is too soft, gradually add a little flour
*divide dough into 4 pieces and roll each piece to 1/4 inch thickness on a floured board
*cut with pastry cutter into strips 6 inches long and 1 inch wide
*tie into a loose knot and deep fry until golden brown
*drain and sprinkle with confectioners sugar.

*Combine dry ingredients and mix well
*cut in lard and add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition
*knead as above; cut into strips, tie into a knot, fry and drain on paper towels
*cool and sprinkle with confectioners sugar.
