This is my first Craftster post (so feel free to let me know if I'm not following the appropriate format).

This is a sleep mask that originated as a digital collage I made utilizing public domain images from the Library of Congress and some vintage-style circus and sideshow inspired fonts.

I designed it to have the feel of a vintage sideshow poster advertising a hypnotist.

I printed it with spoonflower.com and was amazed at the quality of the print and the cost (under $30 for a yard of organic cotton printed fabric, including shipping).

I used recycled fabric for the rest of the sleep mask, from a torn high-thread count sheet (ripped by our dogs while they were playing a big too rough on the bed). I cut four to five extra fabric layers and stitched it together to provide a quilted layer of insulation to block out light. The sheet was a fitted sheet, and I cut a portion of the elastic around the edge of the sheet to use as a strap for the mask. The cut edges of fabric on the elastic strap are coated lightly with non-toxic fabric glue to prevent fraying.

This is seriously great - I was looking up sleep masks because I wanted to make some for Christmas and now I am worried mine will be underwhelming.
