i found an advent calendar in target at half-off and i am going to paint it up!!!  i mention this in case anybody else who wanted to try this but couldn't find a likely object in their thriftshop.

That is amazing, I love it. I'm curious, and maybe I missed it - how do you attach the tape measures?

I just used a heavy decoupage type glue (probably gel medium or mod podge).  They were fabric or plastic, and they've held really well. Smiley
