A family friend of ours just recently moved in with my mother in law from Kentucky. He came with just what he could pack in his truck so things like stockings and such didn't make the trip. So, I thought I'd make him a stocking based on things he likes.

I googled "cowboy boot stockings" and got all sorts of ideas. I ended up using McCall's Crafts pattern M5549 (Stocking F) for the general outline for it. Then I used gray and black felt for the tip and heel. The main stocking is made from brown broadcloth with cow print costume fabric for the design. Making these parts was pretty easy and safe. The injuries came when I was hand-sewing the hanging loop on. I decided to make it manly by using black rope instead of going the girlie way and using ribbon. Yeah. Great idea.

Here's a photo of the finished product:

Here's a photo of my finger after I stabbed the dull side of the needle through my finger. And I thought the pointy side hurt! Turns out the dull side hurts worse.

And here is a separate injury, one that didn't result in blood, but was also with the dull side of the needle. Notice the thimbles were of no use to me. Smiley

The stocking is adorable, in a very manly kid of way of course. And your poor fingers!
