I just had the best idea ever. I think that on craftster we should have groups we can join.

You see the paper crafting gang and the inchies crew all know each other but wouldn't it be awesome if we could some way start making groups to join. It would probably make things tons easier for getting group projects and personal swaps together and things like that! Maybe each group can get approved and we can have an official board for them! And for crafters challenges we could do little gang/mafia wars. IMHO I think this could work out great!

That's a good idea. I've noticed that I've swapped with a few of the same people because we have similar taste.

Ive been on forums before where there were group options, and basically you couldn't just make a group but you could get one made and you could join anyone you wanted to. It had its own board for discussion and I think that it worked really nicely.

I think groups sound a little over-ambitious, personally - that would add a whole other huge dimension to Craftster.  But I can see the purpose.  Perhaps as an alternative, we could add a place for keywords/tags in our profiles for non-craft interests and/or one for the types of crafts we do, and then make members searchable by these tags?  That would allow us to find other Crafsters with similar interests, without add a lot of "bulk" (and possibly major navigation issues) to the site.

Yes, I think groups would complicate things greatly - not only for the database, coding, bandwidth, admin etc but also for moderating (just think about how many mods you'd need for this!)

Also - kind of think that we naturally connect with like minded people anyway, with the swaps and with the boards. I'm guessing that most people are like me, and only 'inhabit' the boards of topics I'm interested in, so you probably won't find me lurking on the glass boards, because I don't do crafting with glass, but you might find me on the quilting boards, because that is something that interests me.

As the OP said - inchie and paper crafting people all know each other - so if they want a group project it'd be fairly simple for them to organise it.
