I'm an outdoor educator and I have run into a problem: Lame and unoriginal lesson plans.

So many of them are outdated or overly-cutesy. I would love to share my ideas with other Craftsters in the education field, as well as get some advice and new lesson plans.

Not only could this board be used for educators, but also for people hosting kid's birthday parties or even family get-togethers where entertainment for kids is needed.

What do you guys think?

PS Leah, if you decide this is a good idea for a board, I volunteer to be a moderator if you need one.

Do you think Leah would mind if maybe we started a lesson plan thread in the Miscellanous area?  I know for us preschool teachers maybe we could start with ideas for teaching certain letters of the alphabet or a Easter themed lesson plan.

This would be really good.  I think lesson plans would be a little un related but i class all the resources i make as craft and it would be great to see other people's ideas for those.

Or perhaps a 'crafted for kids' board - there's one for pets!!!

Hi! I don't know if this idea got posted already, but it would be great if there was a teaching/classroom ideas board with (craft)projects, classroom displays and such.
I teach at an elementary school and this board would be a great inspiration! thanks for considering!

I have seen it on here....somewhere. I think it's a great idea. I have so many resources I'd love to share in exchange for new ideas. I taught school for 10 years and now home-school my own kids. As I see it you can never have too many resources. If this doesn't take off, PM me and I'd be happy to share what I have with you. d Cool

This is a good idea.  I read in the paper the other day about a retired teacher who is banking that teachers will pay other teachers for their ideas that will be for sale through his website.  It seemd like he wants it to work like etsy does.

I'm not sure how I feel about this.  I like the idea that teaching ideas are more freely available.  When I was teaching I had to pay for my own classroom furniture, books, and supplies.  Thank goodness people shared their ideas freely, because I had to eat and pay rent too.

Yep, I think this would be a great area to share resources! There are lots of companies in the UK that you can buy resources from, but it's nice to share with like minded folk rather than have to go through the whole publishing and copyright drama!

I teach secondary art and have masses of worksheets, lesson plans and artist profiles which I'd love to share!

I think an Educator's Board would be cool but not focused on lesson plans per say....there are lots of places that do that.  I would like a board where you could post pictures of things you have made for or done with your class.  Like reading areas, bulletin boards, organization etc.  It helps to see how other people are doing things!

I know it's been a while since this was originally posted, but I would LOVE to see a board for educators. I just got a job as an K-3rd grade art teacher (leave replacement) and the district I work in is a huge supporter of the arts. We are not allowed to do any holiday-related crafts, but we have all of the supplies for printmaking, bookmaking, and lots of other great projects. Walking into my classroom is like walking into Michaels!  I feel so lucky!

I would like to integrate some of the amazing craft projects I have seen here on Craftster with some of the more fine-art based projects I do. I think I board for lesson plan-friendly crafts would be so wonderful!

Thanks!

Hey! just posting that I STILL love this idea.

Craft for ya'all:  Gift for mom (or anyone else)
Suplies:
Body wash
Starbucks bottles
Markers
Contact paper

make your own simple body wash as a class (GREAT SCIENCE and math LESSON)
Then pull out all those starbucks bottles (you know you cant part with them!)
Cut out contact paper to cover the lid (kids can decorate it with markers)
Put the contact paper ovet the bottle top
Fill with body wash
Tie a nice ribbon around the neck of the bottle and attach a small tag (tag makes a fun kids craft)

Let's do it, let's totally do it!

I just finished my degree in outdoor education and in art. I make lesson plans using arts and crafts to teach.

I have a lot to share and I bet a lot of you do too!

I think an Educator's Board is a great idea, not only for arts and crafts teachers, but for any teacher or parent searching for creative things to do with kids. My mom is an English teacher with a lot of experience and creative approach, so if you guys ever do this board I'll probably tell her about it.

I think this would be awesome as well! I'm starting my student teaching January. I think a place to share lesson plans, crafts and projects done by classes, and even a place where you could communicate between classrooms would be awesome!

Dear Craftster Friends,
Three years ago, I was much younger and dumber and I flaked on a few swaps. I am back and I promise to make it up to everyone I hurt. I had been flaked on a couple of times, and I know how cra**y it feels. I am really sorry.

So many Craftsters involved in education in some way, wow! It'd be fantastic to have somewhere for crafty lessons/resources...I know I'm always designing boardgames, games and other things to use in ESOL classes and lots of these could be used with early years, so I'm in support of this!

Edit: perhaps Crafting for Good and not Evil would be a good place for such a board?!

I've noticed that there are a large number of educators on this board. We are constantly creating various items for our classrooms and in my 18 yrs of teaching, I've never seen site in which we could discuss and show off our creations for our classrooms.

Personally, I would find it inspiring and educational to learn from fellow craftster teachers and librarians. Smiley

I was actually coming on this side of the boards to suggest something very similiar. I was thinking, that a basic education board would be great, it could include all the crafts that people have done for school (that seem to be all over the place), a place for teachers to share crafts and craft ideas for their classes, a place for teachers to share decorating ideas for their doors and classrooms. There seem to be a lot of teachers and students on Craftster and I think it would be a great idea to have a board for them and so everything is nicely collaborated together...I really hope this one happens...Also I would not mind volunteering to be a mod for this board either should it happen.

I think this is really a good idea. I've worked at summer camps for three years. I worked in the arts and crafts area so I have come up with all sorts of crazy fun and interesting plans but I also like to hear other peoples ideas too, I think it could be really informative.

This is slightly OT for this thread, but I've proposed a Crafty Teacher swap.

Here's the link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=333947.0

Gotta start this ball rolling somewhere! Smiley
