I am a lowly beginner with quilting.  To date I've made only one very simple quilt for a sick friend.  For the Mini-Art Quilt swap I have made my first art quilt. 

For a partner who loves dance, I made this swinging parallelogram!

I drew the design onto freezer paper, then used it as a pattern to cut my backing and foundation (batting).
I used a "quilt as you go" method of stitching each wedge directly to the foundation and backing.  Heat N Bond is amazing stuff for applique (you still need to secure it with a zigzag or something, but it stays in place while you do that) and Freezer Paper is great for attaching a pattern to fabric for detailed cutting.

I wish I had taken more photos of it before I sent it out, but I was in a hurry to get it in the mail.

RetroRose - I was inspired by your quilt from Round 1!  My partner wisted it and really liked the silhouette effect! Smiley

I designed the swing dancers myself...I drew my first draft on the back of a Walmart receipt while waiting at the dentist. Wink

It has real movement and the contrast is cool. Grin
I must also add that I would be totally lost without freezer paper. It's not easy to get hold of in the UK and I have to order it specially from a quilting supply company.  Roll Eyes
