My friend was looking through my copy of Embroidered Effects and loved the Sugar Skulls project, so I told her if she got a skirt I would embroider it for her.  We were in Roatan, Honduras and we found the perfect little white sun dress for this embroidery so here it is.

I began by laying it out on the dress and adding some flowers to the pattern from the book to fill in some space.  I did the skulls in white.

I then moved on to the vines using a light green for the main body, then adding the leaves in dark green.

I moved on to the flowers next, limiting the colours to pastels and using the same ones spaced out around the design.

Fist skull next.  When I added the blue around the outside I was a little concerned that it was too much

But then I added the last skull and evened out the colours by using a little bit of blue here too.

Here are a few posed shots of it:

I am very happy with the way it turned out and so is she, which is the main thing!!

Amazing work, I love all the colors, and detail. What a way to turn a simple dress into something fun and interesting. I think needlework will be a great idea for some of my own clothes.  Grin
