Baby is here - at long last!!

I made this quick jumper style dress in under two hours - it's not perfect and it's more of a trial run on a Christmas dress I want to make for my daughter.  I just found a dress of hers that I liked, measured it and added a bit for seams and put it together.  Next time I'll make the pleats (ruffles..I'm not a seamstress..what's the proper word for that?) more even and do the top in four pieces and turn it inside out so none of the seams show.

This is Jenny's expression when I asked her to give me her "biggest smile". Smiley

I think those're gathers. I'm not positive, though.

Such a cute dress! It would look good with pleats. Adorable expression she gave too. Wink

Ah, ha!  Gathers!  Of course that's what they are.  Like I said..I'm not a seamstress and all the proper terms escape me. Smiley  Yes, she's a girly girl so lady like dresses are perfect for her.

What a cute jumper; I like it!  How did you do the back?  I'm trying to picture how easy it is to get on and off.  Is there a button at the top of the back?  I would love to make my daughter one of these.   Grin  Thanks in advance!

Okay, so basically it's just two bodice pieces (or four if you're going to do it the right way so you don't see the seams) and then two rectangles of fabric sewn together and gathered to the top.  It doesn't have a button or zipper - it just pulls over her head.  It's not form fitting (and does it really need to be when the kid is four? Wink) and stretches a bit to pull over.  I made another one with four bodice pieces and stretchier material and it's even easier to get on.
