I am making an afghan. It's slated to be done in April. I'd love to do it with someone, my chart's all yours!
It's for the boyfriend for our 2-year anniversary. It’s a pixelated 8-bit attempt at Link in Link to the Past. Here are the sprites I based my pattern on.

I just did a chart for the colors. Each square is equivalent to a granny square.
He's been revised to make the sword brighter.
Why did I give myself until April, you ask? I’ll tell you: each of those blocks is a 1.5″ granny square. There are 950 of them. So besides making them, I need to sew them all together. I had to order more than twenty 3.5 oz skeins of grey yarn.

I’m using primarily Vanna’s Choice acrylic yarn, worsted weight, although the white is Caron and the bright blue is Red Heart Soft. The Caron is done with an H hook, and everything else with an I, although some odd yarn needed even a J! There’s a lot of variability between brands, so each time, I do a test square against another to make sure they are uniform in size.
I’m done with the yellow, white, green, and red. Here’s a breakdown of squares needed, by color:

That’s right. 591 grey squares. Oh, the monotony! This boy is very fortunate that I love him.
I’m going to try to crochet 50 squares a week until March, which gives me a month and a half to sew these together.
Update: I've crocheted three skeins of grey yarn this week! That's around 100 squares. [11/21/09]
