I have Avast, also. I wasn't sure if it was working to catch spyware, 'cause It's the free home version. As soon as I can I'm upgrading to the professional version.
HOWEVER... it caught a trojan twice this last week! So, it is working!
I was able to get all the data written down, but I don't have the skills to
snap a fast picture so I can close out my page.
I wrote down the URL to the trojan horse the second time, and all the other data on the screen. Then I turned in the info to Craftster. I really hope it helped!
Except, the stuff I was getting before the Avast actually caught it, has been changing it's address constantly. There was always part of the url that remained, only the first words were changed.
I was able to copy and paste this back to craftster. But, I could not copy and paste it when Avast had it's catch screen up.
I haven't been bothered thru the weekend, but I'll collect any data I can if it does.
I'm just wondering, Sweets, if there's a better and more direct way to report the URL's other than going thru the threads? Seems like posting all that stuff publicly is not the best idea???

So does it erase the files, or just copy them? So have I haven't seen anything MISSING. How will I know how much damage has already been done? Especially when things seem OK right now?

Beware guys it's not just a craftster thing, I've gotten it a few times on Facebook also.  It's been said once or twice but do not click on anything...Cntr...Alt...Delete to open Task Manager and close that way, then run all virus/adaware type programs you have.   My mom got this a year ago and it took 2 trips to a computer guy to get rid of it.  It's a nasty virus.

Beware guys it's not just a craftster thing, I've gotten it a few times on Facebook also.

we know.  that too has already been covered.  a few of us have mentioned that we get it on other sites like MySpace, which was the other site I was getting it on.  it's been taken care of, and the threat is gone from here.

I'm glad it's gone! I'd missed this post until now, and was blaming my daughter's manga websites (where we got it last time).

I probably should fess up and apologize for blaming her when it was my favorite website the whole time.   Embarrassed

I alt-f4 about 10 times whenever it comes up, and reboot the computer, and to my knowledge, it hasn't re-installed it on our computer. Last time my husband ended up re-installing windows because he (the computer genius around here who works in e-commerce) couldn't disable it enough to keep it from coming back once it was fully installed.

Thanks for fixing it! I hate the "you may have a virus" virus installers!  Angry

Edited to add: Just read the whole thread and the issue is resolved! YEAH!

again, I have Fire Fox and I have Vista.  neither of them help me...or do they?  I haven't seen one of these pop-ups in quite a while (knock on wood), so maybe there was an update that did help me.  I don't know.  I do know that I will never use IE ever again.  once I was introduced to Fire Fox, I haven't wanted to turn back.  any updates Windows comes up with for IE, I ignore them.  I think the problem is in the sites, not our software.
I have the same option you mentioned earlier turned on (hubbys advice) and I've never seen this add. my thoughts are your theory worked!
I've noticed if I am searching for something on google firefox will randomly close and give me a warning that the site I was about to look at wasn't safe. Haven't had it happen since the last FF update though....

I'm jsut curious if you have adblock plus installed as an add on? It's really handy in preventing these sorts of things. Firefox in itself is better than IE as you mentioned but it can only do so much. Adblock plus it great for those sorts of things:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865

Also it's important no matter what browser you use to make sure you check for updates regularly. I just noticed I need to upgrade my firefox! This part isn't directed at you but at everyone! The reason it's important is they make fixes for bugs and things that can get through your browser to your computer all the time. Same reason it's important to update your windows when it gives you the option. (though I always ignore the IE updates since I don't use it.)
