So my grandmother has been making crochet blankies for each of her grandchildren when their first babies were born. We got one when I had my first daughter was born, and we used it a lot and I'll cherish it for ever.
But now my grandmother has Parkinson's desease and however hard she tries, she just can't crochet anymore. But I have a lot of cousins. And one just was due with her first baby this month. So I was really glad when my grandmother asked if I still crocheted (Of course !!!) and if I would make a blanket for my cousin. I jumped at the occasion of course.
The first step was to find suitable yarn as the yarn she originally used was no longer available from Phildar (yep, we're in France). Then I started to crochet the squares, and I used that fantastic join-as-you-go technique which saved me tons of time (totally love it!!). I'm now weaving in all the ends, before I can send the blanket to my cousin who has just given birth to her daughter.
And I made a little matching hat so that I could give her also a little something "from me" with the leftovers of the same yarn.. :-)
I also made another little hat btw, which I'll send soon to another cousin, who also gave birth to a little girl recently. Lots of cousins, lots of babies !! :-D
