I love corduroy this time of the year. I made a bag that looks yummy EXCEPT the top stitching in a few places puckers. How do I avoid this. Should I adjust the foot pressure or something else?

Yes.
Adjust your pressure foot and lengthen your stitch a bit.

That should do the trick.
