I finally figured out satin stitch yesterday!
I got excited about it, so I stitched up this piece from an Urban Threads pattern.
I hadnt really considered the challenge of satin stitching facial features, but I think she turned out ok - though she does kinda look like a Disney Princess waitress  (I imagine that if Disney made "It Could Happen To You" into an animated movie, she would look like this) Cheesy

The hair is a variegated brown.  I had no fleshy tones, so I combined one strand of a pale pink with one strand of a pale wheat to make that effect.  The black lettering is my first attempt at backstitch (wonky, but just looks like coffee jitters  Tongue )

All satin stitching is done with 2ply thread.

Holy guacamole, that's so awesome!  I think her facial expression is one of the best parts, and her hair is awesome!

Excellent work...and you are so right about the Disney princess vibe (I love it)! The flesh tone turned out quite nice, I think.

Awesome!  I like your solution for the flesh tones.  Makes it much more realistic than one color would have been.
