I have a decoupage project in mind- I figure finding a picture and slapping it on is going to save me some trouble.. but now I'm not sure.... Where do I find a picture? The last thing I want is to print it off and most of the 'stuff' around our house has been purged so I really don't have any old magazines to go through....
I'm looking for an Asian/Chinese style phoenix. And maybe some fire to go with it. If you've eaten at a Chinese buffet, you've probably seen what I want. It needs to be a little small, but not the mini size that's on the Chinese Zodiac placements.
I don't even know where to start looking! HELP!

It may help you to search through clipart databases online? I found some nice images on istockphoto.com but there are free places out there too.

There are several crafts you can do with paper shredder shreds, use it to stuff your creations or for paper dolls...

Just go to google Images, and type in the image you are looking for. Then, you will see how ever many pages. There is usually a notation if the image is free, but there may be a use fee. One image I was looking at would have cost me about $6.50 , and more the larger I wanted it.
But, there are lots of images available that way.

You should take a look at the book and magazine section of local thrift stores. You're likely to find something eventually.

So I saw this and thought of your thread  Cheesy

The dover sampler for this week featured a book with this image

http://tinypic.com/m/6zon6b/2

You said you don't want to just print it off, so if you like this one, you could potentially purchase the book it is in.

Here's the link to the book: http://store.doverpublications.com/0486995097.html

Try searching www.deviantart.com and if you find something you like just message the artist and ask to use it for personal use...they usually don't mind as long as it's for personal use.

also try http://vintageprintable.com/wordpress/

I assume you're looking for a picture of a phoenix that you can recycle, like the placemats you mention.
How about the cover or advertising art for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix?
Do you know anyone in Phoenix, AZ?  They might be able to find something from a local restaurant or shop.
Is there a Chinatown in your area?  Calenders, money envelopes, and product packaging would be resources.
How about a fireworks store?  They often have phoenix images.   In fact, they sometimes have really gorgeous artwork.
Chinese New Year is coming, there might be cards or posters.
Ask at your local Chinese restaurant.  They may get some supplies in phoenix packaging.

I live in an area with a large Asian population; hope you do, too.
good luck!
