I am entering my first gingerbread house contest with the first house I have made without a kit.  I didn't keep track of the actual hours it took me, but it was several hours a day for about 2 weeks (lots of planning) and I spent a lot of money on candy I never ended up using.  All in all I am happy with the results whether or not it wins me a ribbon or a trip to Hawaii.  Cheesy

****UPDATE: I won 2nd place in my category.  The other entries were pretty awesome, too.  I don't know what kind of prize I've won yet, but I know for sure that I have a big beautiful red ribbon to display and bragging rights!****

Roof tiles are jumbo Wilton sprinkles.  Pillars are marshmallow ropes.  Made windows with royal icing and color flow on wax paper then applied to the house.  Mini green marshmallow bushes with premade icing flowers.  Main roof is covered in rolled fondant.

Hope this writing holds up in transit to the contest.  It took a few tries to get it on there without breakage.

The pez chimney spawned my color scheme.  Who knew there was a conspiracy against orange pez in the world?  I had to go through lots of packages to keep my pattern going.

My little birdhouse.  This is my favorite part.  I think I'll make some for gifts this year.

The backyard that probably won't even be seen on display.

The back corner detail.

My house's humble beginnings...

This is my first post in food.  I appreciate everyone's C&C.  Thanks!

Very cool! If it hasn't been suggested already, it would be fun to use gingerbread house as a theme for a Craftster challenge...
