$5 gingham dress to skirt and top combo (img fat)

I bought a dress for five dollars because I liked the fabric but basically nothing else. The skirt was too short and poofed where I didn't want it.


As an added note, the dress is extremely busty and I haven't decided how I want to fix it yet, so please bear with the photos.

First I separated the top and the bottom, like so:


Then I took an old tank I didn't like and attached it to the top, thusly:


After I'd done that, I started screaming because the tank was much larger than the gingham bit and I had already pinned it and had to resize first, shown here:

Quite a simple recon but it took me forever and it's all wonky under the tits 'cause I cut it funny. I think i'll cover up where I've sewn with some lace or something.

I really like it! I sympathise with the wonky cutting bit, ive just made a dress with a wonky waistline so ive just decided it can only be worn with a belt - problem solved :p

my first thought was "why do we need to FIX the busty?" I think that pretty firmly establishes my feelings there...

I love this! i think the lace is a good idea, but i would add lace in some crazy color. not sure that it fits with the idea of the dress (it looks more 'classic' as it is now).

I really like this refashion.  It seems like every cute dress right now is cut way above the knee, and that's not my favorite length, especially paired with spaghetti straps and a low neckline.

very nice! it looks much better on you now! If you want to "fix the busty" i would add lace or some light coordinating fabric in a criss cross fashion so it looks like a cami underneath, but as long as you don't plan on wearing it to work/school/other "professional" avenues, it looks fab on you the way it is: if you've got it, flaunt it!

Haha, thanks everyone. The photos don't do the bustiness justice-my bra pokes out several inches when just moving about normally. I thought of putting a strip of fabric going flatways across it but it just didn't seem right so I think diagonally with the flow of the v would work a lot nicer.
Plus I love lace.
