In years past I have given gifts that I wasn't too sure if they were well recieved, however these are some things I learned:
-Not everyone shows appreciation in the same way
-If you are going to make a gift, make sure you really know the person, or hint about it, I have learned with my SIL, if I select her fave colours, or get a bit of input from her, it is much more likely to be used.
-NEVER expect to see the item used/displayed, some people may only display things at certain times of the year such as the time it was recieved so that the piece remains special, if this is the case you may not see it, when you do though, you can be extra happy

So although I wondered about the gifts when I made them, I learned afterwards sometimes days, other times weeks/months/year that they were appreciated, some just show it more than others.  However I belong to a group that does secret pal, when I first started EVERYONE got handcrafted gifts, now I have learned to craft only for those who appreciate the time it takes to create an individualistic gift.

Most of all, give a gift from the heart and remember the gift you give another is the gift you give yourself, if you feel warm and fuzzy when you give the gift, that's all that matters!
