I've never quilted, but I REALLY want to start. So, what do I do? I've sewn before. I understand cutting the blocks and whatnot, but do you iron seams, and then finish the seams? or do u just quilt it all then put batting and backing and squiggle it all...?

I have a lot of ideas for this type stuff.

That's fantastic.

And the reason why the black squares look differently coloured is probably because some were sewn along the grain and some against the grain. The flash brings it out.

Well, I don't know how you're supposed to actually quilt, but all I did was sew my squares into strips, then iron the seams flat.  Then I attached the strips to eachother and ironed the seams again, and then ironed again at the end.  As for the batting, backing and front, I sewed them together around three edge when they were inside out, turn it right side out, sew shut the fourth side, and top stitch around it.  Then I tacked the layers together at points all over quilt.  My second quilt I used yarn tied all over, but this one I used thread.  Hopefully that helps a little, but if not, I suggest just checking out the library for some beginner books, or search out someone else on this site, becasue I really dont know how to quilt.
