I have been longing for a painting from this Etsy shop for quite some time:

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=27569490And decided I would use it as inspiration to fill a recycled frame that has needed artwork in it for my craft room. I managed to make the whole thing out of my stash, only purchasing some foamcore board to mount it on. I tried to use the garage sale painting that was in the frame before as the base, but it was falling apart.
So here is the wall hanging just by itself:
The fabrics used are recycled felted wool (all the blues), quilting cotton, and the lime green is a recycled linen jacket. The brown trunks and circles are a suede-like material. Some of the medium green is a short nap upholstery velvet.

I have been interested in penny rugs and felting wool sweaters lately, so this all just came together really quickly. The painting by TR Mack that this is strongly influenced by has been rolling around in my brain for 6-8 months. I had a Sunday afternoon to myself, and just started cutting circles and trees out. The whole thing was laid out in about 6 hours, and was stitched together in about 2 weeks. I was very motivated, so the fingers were flying! The overall size is about 18 inches by 24 inches.
There is some batting to provide a little shaping under certain layers including the trees and the lower ground layers. This shows up just a little in this picture:
The stuffing was much more apparent before I framed it, but I am still pleased with the overall effect. It is subtle shaping, but prevents parts from caving in that would have detracted otherwise.
