I have to start by saying that my husband is such a good sport! He's allowed me to dress him up for Halloween in some pretty embarrassing costumes, including a little mouse and a giant, fuzzy Pink Panther, but this Halloween was my favorite so far. I made him a costume based on the original Operation board game, complete with light up nose and buzzy tweezers.
He was a big hit at the party we went to, although the dogs had a good time chasing his parts, and I'll need to remake them due to saliva and dog hair Tongue

Here's a reference photo for anyone not familiar with the game:

Here's a little How To:
- Start with a turtle neck and pair of pants, both white. Die them to whatever skin tone you like with RIT dye. I used scrubs for the pants and had to dye them three times to get them to be a close match to the shirt!

- Using red fabric paint, paint all of the body part outlines. Label each with black fabric paint.

- Cut pieces of velcro for each body part and attach one side to the painted outlines on clothing.

- Cut each body part out of white felt. Attach velcro (I used iron on fusible velcro).  I cut two pieces of felt for each shape, stitched them with white embroidery floss and filled them with a little cotton batting. I wanted them to be able to hold up to lots of pinching and pulling!

- For the "Ankle bone connected to the knee bone" I used two extra large hooks and a length of 1/4 inch tan elastic sewn into a circle.

- The tweezers are our grill tongs with red electrical tape wrapped around the handle. A pair of clown hand buzzers were taped to the inside of the tongs, so that when someone tried to grab a body part they would buzz. Sadly they were kind of cheap and required winding for each buzz, so they both broke within an hour!

Oversall, this costume was a ton of fun to make, and despite my husband's kind of grumpy face in the photo, he had a blast wearing it. I think he likes the attention Tongue

Thanks, guys! You can actually buy a version of this costume, which I learned after I started making it. It's really lame!

I also found a few DIY versions while searching for reference photos, so it has been done. One guy was the whole box, not just the guy inside and it was huge! I thought that would be a bit much, not to mention uncomfortable at a party!

Complete genius!

My hubby and I did Mr & Mrs Potato Head a few years ago - with similar parts that could be moved around.  It was really fun to have an interactive costume  Grin

You did an amazing job.

It's not that I don't want to swap, it's that I often don't have time.  But feel free to ask (especially if it's one that's not too time consuming).
