Well- this year I made 6 Halloween costumes for my family.  Every year my kids pick a theme and the four of us, as well as my sister in law and her boyfriend, dress up.  This year they picked Star Wars and of course everyone wanted something unique.  My youngest is Luke Skywalker with a little bit of Anakin's style thrown in.  My daughter is Princess Leia- after she becomes a Jedi.  My husband is Darth Maul (because Anakin would have been too easy) I am Padme Amidala, sis in law is Aayla Secura and her BF is Obi-Wan Kenobi.  I have a few making of photos since I am going to focus on my costume- because I found that trying to outfit myself when I'm the only one with sewing skills is SUPER hard without some sort of model.  Please ignore my crazy hair- it did not look all bushy in the front like that at all until we viewed the pictures...crazy curly hair!  I hope you enjoy!!

**edit I feel I should mention that Aayla's garb is not her traditional outfit because apparently our Aayla and Obi-Wan have created a Jedi love child  Wink

Well, I managed to finish them all the week before Halloween.  We went and participated in a costume parade and I think I painted the husbands face much better the first time.  It was however almost 75 degrees out so we were horribly uncomfotable after about half an hour lol.

I constructed my vest from green vinyl and had no pattern, I used what I found on padawansguide.com for visual reference in making all the costumes.  The gauntlets and the belt buckle as well as my side pouches I created using craft foam, plaster and paint.  It was a time consuming process, but I think once I aged the pieces they didn't look like craft foam anymore.  My hair was put into 6 low ponytails which I then sectioned off into 4 different sections, each ponytail had some fake hair extensions attached and embossed tin strips wrapped around the tope three sections of the ponytails, the 4th section was wrapped with thick beading wire.  My shirt I made from one of my old AF issue cold weather shirts, I brought it in to fit a little closer to me, sewed a headband around for the neck piece; then after I had purchased pants and dyed them the right color DH decided to be painfully honest and tell me the pants were..uh too form fitting- so using vegbee's tute for thai fisherman pants (for kids) I drafted my pants and sewed them up from some maroon polyester.  They fit a lot better than the other pants, so I have to admit I appreciated his honesty- after I was done with all the costumes.

Thanks for the love guys!!  Smiley

raincity- after I had painted it and added a top coat of sealer I went ahead and repainted each gauntlet and pouch let that dry, then brushed on a ton of black paint into the crevices and such, and used a sponge to smear it and wipe a majority of it off until I was happy with the effect.  For the pouches i also ended up using brown shoe polish to give it a slight shine and make the foam look like leather- I will have to see if I can find my good shots of the pouches.  The head pieces are actually just some of my daughters old tights that I dyed blue and stuffed with poly-fil, my sis in law bobby pinned them to her hair line to make sure they stayed and the headpiece helped hold it all in place.

I LOVE THIS. Most of the time I just see Darth Vader with his mask on but here...I love the make-up job and all the costumes are great. Awesome!
