Okay, so I'm crocheting my boyfriend some hats for Christmas. I asked him what kind of things he wanted because I planned on making some for his favorite football team (that failed because he changed his favorite team XD) Then I asked him if he wanted any geeky or nerdy patterns on a hat because they looked pretty easy because of some patterns I had seen on here. So he comes up with the great idea of, "you should crochet a brain hat." What? Really?

So, If I were to do this, I would need some kind of 3-D model of a brain, right? I'm not quite sure how I would chart this in tapestry crochet. Maybe one chart for the top and two for the sides? It looks really complicated =/ are there any tips you have to help me? I haven't done much of this kind of thing before, I'm a total noob but I like his idea a lot Cheesy

I DO NOT WANT TO MAKE THIS ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE A BRAIN, I just want it to be lines on a hat, but a flat hat. A regular beanie with a lighter brain design on it. all stitches the same, single crochet, just changing colors for the design.

Here's a neat picture of Einstein's brain I found on wikipedia...

I would probably do this on a black hat with a gray brain (close to the real thing, right?)

Please, if you have seen anything like this before or if you have any advice I would love to hear it!
Thanks to all who read this and comment as well Smiley

That would work if I wanted to make it a 3-D version, but I just want to make a plain beanie with a brain design on it so that he'll actually wear it. Thanks for your thoughts Smiley

I would work in a free-from style. Something like this:

The hard part would be getting it into the right shape for a hat. You can maybe test it frequently to see if you're getting the shape right (even just on your own head).

Like I said, I don't want to make it in the shape of a brain, I just want it to be a brain pattern in tapestry crochet. I just need help charting the brain design. But thank you for your input Smiley
