Free as a bird!!! Scrapbooking paper bird wall hanging :)

Here's my go at the challenge!


The materials I used for this were black string, scrapbooking paper, cut up cereal boxes (for stability) and pigment inks!


I made the bird by tracing another watercolored bird I made the other day onto scrapbooking paper, then cutting it out and using a sharpie pen to draw all the details. Next, I used a little bit of watercolor to make the body a little bit greener, then colored the edges with a blue stamp pad.

For the frame (which turned out surprisingly like a matte board), I just used 1.5" strips of cereal boxes and glued them together to make an 8"x8" frame. I then just used a gluestick to paste the scrapbooking paper to its front. Cut out the center with a razor blade, and voila! A frame The "cage bars" are just lengths of black string attached to the back with hot glue, evenly spaced.


The raindrops falling off the bottom are merely cut out of a thicker scrapbooking paper and edged with a black inkpad, then glued to the strings which were then glued to the back of the frame!


Here's a pic of the back...NOT CUTE! But it gives you an idea as to the construction of the thing.

Really nice.  I thought at first that you had used corrugated card stock for the back of the frame.  I like the string for a background.  Great work.

This is wonderful! How beautiful. I think if you glue some more scrapbook paper to the back it will both look more finished and lessen the chance of the strings being pulled off.
