A bit of backstory here: My brother got married this summer, and instead of a traditional wedding, they did it their own way and ran off to get married by themselves. We didn't know where and we didn't even know exactly when. When my brother phoned me to tell me, I was in the cinema watching Harry Potter Cheesy. We had a big party a month later to celebrate with all the family and friends here, and my brother asked me to make a fun cake for it.

They got married in Brighton, and wanted some reminders of that particular day at the party. There are some brilliant photos of the two of them running around Brigton pier dressed up to the nines, but one of the best had to be my beautiful now sister in law on the carousel in her wedding dress- so the idea of a carousel cake was born.

It took about 3 days altogether, I spent a whole day just making the actual cakes, which was Madeira. I didn't realise how much cake mix a 14" tin holds! Then they had to be shaped, covered in fondant, and painted on with paste icing colours, which I loved doing but was very labour intensive.. The horses are cookies, my very talented brother made these amazing cookie cutters:

These were all iced with royal icing then painted. We then had to get the cake to the site of the party, and I decided to assemble it there as I wasn't sure how sturdy the whole thing would be... so we drove there with these huge cakes on our laps... man those things were heavy!

My brother also made the base and platform thingy you see in this picture. The base had a handle so you could turn the cake and the whole cake turned around. We had a plan to make the horses move up and down as well, but there just wasn't enough time!

Phew! Anyway, here are one or two more photos... enjoy!

HA! My brother did the SAME THING! They told us 6 months later "when they got around to it." :-) Oh, brothers.

That is an awesome cake, though!
