I got this used sweater vest at the $ store, and turned it into this scarf and hat set for my nephew!
First I cut the pieces out so that the bottom of the hat and scarf were the band of the vest, then I cut little ears and eyes from some felt I had. Sewed the two hat pieces together, and hand stitched the "face" on. Sewed the two scarf pieces into one long one, then folded in half(width) and sewed again. Turned the scarf right side out, and ta-da!
Here's the blog post with the original tutorial: http://rufflesandstuff.blogspot.com/2009/10/tutorial-hat-and-scarf-from-sweater.html
