A commissioned camel
«
on:
October 27, 2009 08:50:40 AM »
This is a camel I did for a commission. He is firmly felted without an armature, and stands just over 10" tall. He even has the eyelashes. I used hairs from my dog's tail for them.

Thank you so much everyone. No, there is no armature. I do my legs by adding a small bit of wool at a time, and shaping as I work my way down to the feet. It takes for ever, but is nice and sturdy.

He is awesome.
I don't know much about felting, well I've felted some of the stuff I've knit but this is obviously a totally different process. Could you explain it a little for me. Do you just start out with roving or do you use pieced of felt and ball it up or what?

Thank you for your continued revues all.
Wendy, I use wool roving and a felting needle. I roll the roving into an egg shape, firm it down with the needle, then add small amounts of roving and shape them as I go along.
Shade of Shadow, he is totally needle felted. No wet felting.
