So I couldn't sleep last night due to a tooth ache and to kill time I was trying to finish a bracelet I've been working on. I made some jump rings using pliers that weren't quite working out.
So I googled how to make jump rings and found this nifty website:
http://jewelrymaking.allinfoabout.com/features/makejriing.html
I tried using a nail in place of the "wig jig" but I had trouble holding onto the wire as I wrapped and getting it straight and tight. So I had this nifty idea:

I took a block of wood, a metal piece with three holes, and a nail with the desired size for the jump rings. I used the metal piece to secure the nail to the board, and dilled two holes in the block of wood and threaded the wire through it. For extra security, I also used the screws holding the metal piece to the wood and wrapped the wire around them. From there, I was able to coil up the nail really easily and quickly. I also switched the nail out for different sizes. See?

Here are the plier made jump rings:

And my new and improved ones:

Hope this helps other wire-wrapping challenged individuals Smiley

Excellent contraption you got there.  Very clever.  Homemade jigs usually get the job done faster and better than anything else.  Well done.

You clever thing! I'm pretty sure I have stuff around the house to do this and I could definitely use it!
