Spoiler alert for MadGypsy, mamarose22, and kewlmomma!

I'm in the current dotee swap, and these are the first ones I've ever made.  I honestly don't know if I did it right.  It was weird to break the rules and do things like deliberately use the wrong color thread on a fabric or to deliberately have something not be lined up straight.  The whole no arms option was very Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber.  LOL  But, seriously, the abstract nature of dotees was a real challenge for me.

I went with crocheted bodies because my sewing machine is being mean and my hand sewing isn't up to swap quality.  I'm more confident crocheting.

From left to right, I made them for MadGypsy (who had hippies and gypsies as 2 of her preferred themes), kewlmomma (who had fantasy creatures as one of her preferred themes), and mamarose22 (who had kitties as one of her preferred themes).

The fronts:

The backs:

It's hard to see in the pictures, but the big green circle on the front of kewlmomma's is a very shiny, swirly effect button.  The white circle on back is a white, smaller version of the same kind of button.

The sequins on the back of kewlmommas were my attempt at an abstract representation of the wings on a fantasy creature.  This sort of thing is a real stretch for me.

mamarose22's is actually a very bright purple, but my camera doesn't cope well with that color.

Please, KINDLY comment and critique.  I am new to dotees, and mine are so different from the ones I've received in the swap.  And, it's weird doing something that's so purposefully abstract.  I'd like to sign up for future rounds, but this round has taught me I have a lot to learn, and I'm skittish.

I have never seen crocheted dotees before. Smiley I think the kitty cat is very sweet. I like all his buttons.
I am not a dotee girl (yet) so I don't know much about them. You are talking like there are rules and such but I am not sure what they are for or what they are.

All I know is l like your little critters. Smiley

Okay, I peeked because I have no willpower whatsoever.

These are fantastic - Aiki, I've said this several times in the Dotee threads that the reason I love new folks to join the swaps is that they (and you) have such new and unbiased ideas about how these little dolls should be made. The fact that you crocheted them is unique - I can't remember if it's been done before. That you took the time to crochet is also great, what care and thoughfulness. And finally, you took one idea and made it totally your own. That is just fabu.

Good job and I can't wait for your partners to receive them.

Thank you for your sweet words.  I've been freakin twitchy because they are nothing like anything in the gallery!!!  I was really worried I had screwed up.

I think the fun of dotees is that they are all completely different. I love that you crochet them instead of sewing! I don't think it matters one bit that the majority of them are sewn. As far as following the "rules" they look like they meet the size requirements and they all have faces-so...rules met. Smiley I don't think you have anything to worry about it.

MadGypsy's is the one I'm most worried about.  It is sooo NOT ME.  I just... I don't make stuff like that.  It really sprained my crafting sensibilities.  LOL
