Fiber Friday 10/23/2009

Happy FF to all!
Here is my experiment on Hucaya alpaca handspinning. I carded Hucaya with mohair locks and merino roving as Hucaya fiber has "no memory to twist". I can not do really bulky yarn with my electric spinning machine so I used antique spindle this time. The yarn is airy and very soft to touch but I can't imagine where to use it
))
But it's beautiful, yeah!
THIS ROCKS

That is really beautiful. If it were me, I would use it as a necklace- it looks perfect that way

that looks so soft and perfect for autumn :-)
i would definitely use it for needlework. i like how it looks if different materials are "stitched together"
if you sew, you could embellish plain fabric, a bag or something … like stitching the yarn on …

i know the place i took pictures of them is weird, but it's like a solarium so there is good natural light even though it is raining and my camera sucks.

how do you tailspin or corespin? or supercoil? or ply with thread to make it look like little bulbs?

Ooh so many pretties!
This's a bunch of stuff I've spun in the past few weeks that I've been unable to post because my brother stole my camera...
Princess & the Pea (bad pictures, because it was sunset!)
Snow Queen
Cherry-ade
Borealis (in progress)
I can't find my little mini-skein of milk yarn.
I wanted to show it off.
Also, corespinning and tailspinning are very similar. You work up a lot of twist in the core yarn, hold the fiber or lock perpendicular to the yarn, and let the ends catch on it and get wrapped up in the twist. Plying with thread is pretty easy, you just keep the thread straight and taut and let the singles wrap around it. I've not figured out supercoils, because I can never get mine to work right, but I think the concept is similar to plying with thread. *Shrug!*
