Totes & Purses- now with tutorial!!!!

These 2 are my purses, I don't use the pink/gray one anymore- it's too small!!!



I made this tote bag (pic below), for all of my little crochet projects. It's nice, I added 2 large pockets, and a somewhat smaller one. And than a narrow long one from my knitting needles. My crochet hook case fits right in there perfectly, I posted it on this post: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=4137.0  it's towards the bottom. The black & white one.



A girl saw my purse & my mom's purse (i made both) and thought they were cute, and wondered if I could make her granddaughter a little beach tote bag. So this is what I came up with.

Are these lined?  How did you make the pockets?   They look GREAT!

I didn't put lining in them. I was going to, but the stitch seemed pretty close together so I didnt think anything was going to fall through, nothing has yet. So I just made little square patches for the pockets and than sewed them into the bag.

Here's the pattern for the 'beach tote bag'. It's just a little one, so if you wanna make it bigger than adjust the length of your chain in the beginning.

Summer Tote

Size: 8 ½”W by 13”L
Materials:
Size J Hook
Sewing needle
Tote:
Yarn (the ones below, or a 4ply yarn)
Caron Simply Soft Brites
   Blue Mint- 2 6oz skeins (MC)
   Lime Light- 2 3 oz skeins(CC)
 Flower:
Caron Simply Soft Brites
   Watermelon- small amount
   Leomande- small amount
Note: This bag is made holding 2 strands of yarn together
Directions:
With Blue Mint (or MC)
Ch 30
Row 1:  1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, and in each remaining hook. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 2-8: 1 hdc in each st across. Ch1, turn. (29)
Row 9: 1 hdc in each st across.
Working in rounds now
Rnd 1: Ch 1, make 9 sc evenly on the short end, 3 sc in next st, sc in the next 27 sts, 3 sc in the next st, make 9 sc evenly on the short end, 3 sc in the next st, sc in the next 27 sts, 3 sc in the last st. Join with a slip st to first sc. (84 sts)
Rnd 2-17: Ch 1, 1 hdc in each sc. Join with a slip st to the first hdc.
Rnd 18: 1 hdc in the next 29 sts, ch 35, sk 13, 1 hdc in the next 29, ch 35, sk 13, slip st to the first hdc.
Rnd 19: 1 hdc in each st.
Rnd 20: 1 hdc in each st. Fasten off.
Rnd 21: Join Lime (or CC); 1 hdc in each st. Fasten Off.
With Lime (or CC); join yarn inside of handles with a slip st. Ch 1, 1 hdc in each st. Fasten Off.

Flower: (make 2)
Rnd 1: With Lemonade (or inside color), ch 4, sl st to join to form a ring, ch 1, 7 sc in ring, join in beg sc, fasten off.
Rnd 2: Join Watermelon (or outside color) ch 1, (sc, tr, sc) in same st as beg ch-1, (sc, tr, sc) in each remaining sc around, join in beg sc, fasten off.
Sew flowers on the bottom right hand corner of the bag.

Weave in all of the loose ends.

If you wish to add pockets, than just chain to desired length and than just 1 hdc in 2nd chain from hook and across, and make however long you wish. And than sew into the bag.

Thanks alot for posting the directions!  Soon as I get my digital back (my 2 1/2 year old dropped my other one!)  I will post a picture.  Thanks again...busym1

I'm glad you liked the pattern, I liked it was well. It's so fast to make, you can make it in a day...as long as you had a couple of hours or so.  I can't wait to see your pictures I never thought about adding fringy yarn to the top, great idea!! I might have to try it!
