MMMMM Fried Marbles.....

These are marbles that I fried, well actually baked causing them to crack on the inside but still remain intact on the outside, so I glued end caps to them with starter rings and created some beautiful pendants. I was going to drill through them and make beads, but as we make mistakes we learn. I learned that I should probably drill the marbles before I crack them, otherwise they fall apart when trying to drill through cracked glass.

Thats so cool. I dont understand why it cracked on the inside but didnt shatter....  What kind of marbles did you use?

At first glance, they almost looked like cut gemstones! I must learn how to do this. Although, I think that drilling through them would have ruined the illusion somehow. You know, making them less amazing and more typical bead. That may just be me, though... Anyway, I really want one now!

i love marbles. i've been collecting them for a long time but these are the most beautiful i've seen!!  i am going to try this tomorrow.

Wow, those are GORGEOUS!!  How big are they?  I totally agree that they look like faceted gems- that's what I thought they were and actually why I clicked on this thread.   So much cooler that they're marbles tho!  Very nice!!

It's really quite easy the best method I found for getting the most cracks is to bake the marbles on a cookie sheet at about 325 - 350 for 20 minutes, as soon as you take them out of the oven put them in a metal bowl or sink of cold water and ice. I used plain marbles usually found in the floral department of crafting stores. Any colored marble will work as long as it is translucent, the marbles that are fully colored like toy marbles are kind of useless because the cracks won't show up. This also works with glass stones. I am not sure how the outer part does not crack, I suppose the way they are made and density, etc. Anyway, the result is lovely. I will post whatever jewelry I end making with these later.

I just tried this with some flat glass stones (the type you put in a vase).
Came out great! Love that sizzle when you drop them in the water! They're going to make awesome wire wrapped pendants.
