We needed another stepping stool but I really didn't want to buy some horrible plastic dealie for the $20 they wanted in the store.

So, I made my own with an orange box, paper recycling, an old (ugly, furry) sweater, and some waterproof covering made from a Dad's oatmeal cookie bag.  It is surprisingly sturdy.

Some eyes and teeth made from a milk cartoon turned the whole thing monsterous.

Here's what it looks like on the bottom.

That's a non-slip shelf liner.  The cover is removable so I can change it out when I get tired of the jim henson look.

I blogged way too much info and a tutorial here, if anyone is interested: http://indietutes.blogspot.com/2009/10/stepping-stool.html

I love questions and comments

What a great idea! I love the way it looks - I bet most kids would too - and I love that it's recycled. Thanks for all the info on how to make it.

That is much cooler than the one I bought at the store when my kids needed one. Smiley

This is great!  I always save my cardboard for something...perhaps I can use some for this!
