Being a student in Chicago means braving bitter cold winds every weekday for about seven months out of the year. So I decided that my current arsenal of scarves was not enough and proceeded to look up a nice pattern for a new one! However, most crochet scarf patterns I have found are lacy and light. I wanted something warm and thick and without huge holes. Unsatisfied with what I found, I started playing around a little and discovered a simple pattern that makes your scarf thick and knubby, but far from boring!

It is about 6 inches wide and taller than me (which isn't saying much), long enough to wrap around my neck:

(on my not-so-lovely self; please forgive the layers and layers I'm wearing to keep me warm in my non-heated home Tongue)

The yarn I used was a pastel bluish lavender, although it's a bit washed out in these pictures. The pattern is very simple: 1 dc, 4 fpdc, 4 bpdc, 4 fpdc, 4 bpdc, 4 fpdc, 1 dc. The final effect is a fun texture that keeps you very, very warm.

I love this scarf! The texture looks really cool. Adding this to my long list of things to make.  Grin

I really like the pattern, it makes your scarf look more finished, I think. Thank you for sharing!

That's a beautiful pattern you made - and the trick is just to alternate back and front loop stitching? Wow, I need to try that, it looks so good!

Love it!  It looks so snuggly warm.  The stitch pattern looks great, almost like a woven look.  I really like the color, what kind of yarn did you use?  It looks really soft  Smiley  Adding to my to do list!
