A friend of mine showed me how to make these Christmas baubles. I just love them. This one is for my god-daughter for her first Christmas this year. Tutorial
The balls I use are approx 18cm circumference. I used 1" ribbons. For the 1st row you need 4x2" long pieces and for the 2nd and 3rd you need 8x2" pieces each. You will need this for each half of the ball.
Mark the ball into 8 wedges.
From your first colour find the centre and pin it to the ball along one of the wedge lines.
Bring the sides down and form a point. Pin it to the ball. Repeat with 3 more pieces.
Mark 1/4" from the centre of the ball. (where the wedges meet.) Find the centre of your next colour. Pin 8 of these around the ball at the points where the ribbon edges meet and also where the folds of the ribbons meet, and make the point as before, keeping one point over and one under the next.
Do the same with the 3rd colour, marking again 1/4" down from the top of the second point.
Ath the top where the point meet, push in a pin with a beadand a sequin. Repeat the steps above for the other side of the ball.
After the ball is completely covered, wrap a ribbon around the centre (I use about 40-45 cm) where the raw edges of the ribbons are showing. Pin it on to the ball with sequins and beads. Loop the excess ribbon into a bow on top and a piece to hang it from the tree.
The you are all finished. The first one at the top of the post, I used eye pins, jump rings and chain to attach the bell and initial letter. Instead of 3 colours, use 2 like I did, or one plain, and one patterned.
I really hope this makes sense, please ask if you have any questions and I will try to help you.
Thanks for looking, and if any one make a ball, I'd love to see it.
