And as a former resident Brit I have to agree with your stitching comments about health care!  I have an ongoing discussion with a so called 'republican' who has no health care and who recently had a car accident and still can't see any problem with her situation.

i too agree that using your political stances in craft is a great way to get your opinion across. also being a brit, i cant imagine having to think about money etc if i've just been in an accident or facing a life-threatening illness. i always sound so dumb when asking americans about their healthcare system - i just dont get it. and i dont understand why they call the UK 'socialist' because we have free healthcare....surel y its a good thing...??

anyway. i love your work - your needlework is something i envy and love to look at.

I love the look of the fonts and color combination in the ignorance piece.  Excellent point about slang in the vernacular as well. 

The typewriter in your zine piece is very sweet, and the detail is awesome!  I love the frame you chose as it truly makes your stitching pop.   

The health care piece has a good message behind it; however, you left out Alaska.  Seeing part of the continent randomly sliced off makes it look strange to my eye - the straight divide seems chopped off or unfinished.  I understand it's a space crunch too get it to fit correctly in a frame, but it looks like the continent has a chopped off chicken neck sticking off the Yukon.

first, i feel stupid about newfoundland, i KNEW that. would you believe that in grade 9 i was one of only 2 kids in my entire class who could correctly name all the provinces/territories and their capitols? (what was worse, the other kid had only moved to canada 2 months before!) i went back and looked at the image i used, and i think they'd drawn it super close together, and when i blew it up bigger, what had been two lines side by side became an actual piece without me noticing it. whoops! thanks for pointing that out!

as for alaska, i know, i'm sorry! i also left out about half of nunavut, so don't take it personally! not to mention hawaii, or the islands off bc's coast, or the inaccuracies along the border, with the great lakes left out..... i just wanted the very basic shapes, easily recognizable.

i posted these pieces on my blog and on flickr earlier than i posted them here, and it's been really interesting considering the nationalities of the people who've commented on the healthcare piece.
