i decided i'm going to be a barmaid for halloween. i already have the white shirt and can easily make the skirt and apron. however, the black vest is a problem. i found a pattern for it (http://www.simplicity.com/p-1942-costumes.aspx view c), but i don't want to buy a whole pattern for just the vest.

so: how would i go about making this vest without buying the pattern?

Hey, JoAnn Fabrics has Simplicity patterns on sale for 99 cents this weekend.  So go splurge and buy the pattern!!  It's not gonna put you in the poorhouse.
