Swirls Cap and Puppy-sized Starghan
«
on:

This hat turned out even better than I expected! I made it to match a zig-zag/ripple/wave/whatever stripey scarf that I finished a couple weeks ago (you can see a bit of it in the pics). It was made using the AWESOME pattern by
Sophia Kessinger
on ravelry. I would absolutely recommend it!
And this isn't really worth noting, but I felt we could all use a little gratuitous puppy action.
It's a little stash busting starghan I made to put in Bug's crate. She loves snuggling under blankies.
Thanks for looking!

That hat is fabulous (as is the scarf!)
I ♥ your lil Boston girl. My best friend and her hubby have a Boston puppy.

Thanks for pointing out this hat pattern. It is super-cute! It looks a little more complicated than stuff I've tried, but I'm going to give it a go.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the colors you used, it looks so great with your scarf.

Thanks! This pattern was a little intimidating and it looks really complicated but it's incredibly easy and very well written! I'm a knitter first and my crochet skills are really lacking but as long as you can single crochet, double crochet, increase, and decrease this pattern is a breeze! The only new thing I had to learn was FPDC (front post double crochet) but it's explained really well in the pattern. Definitely give it a try!

As for starghan, your dog is simply adorable.
I would like to make one for my own dog.

awesome! I've been looking for a hat pattern like this that wasn't too expensive (i.e. Free) and it looks like it'll work wonderfully. I Really want to do a starghan, yours is so adorable with the little puppy under it, that I may end up making one out of cotton as a little rug for my room since I don't have carpet....hmmm...
good job!!

Those were taken with my Sony Cybershot DSC-W200. It's a 12.1 megapixel point-and-shoot sorta deal, but my baby is my Nikon D60.

That's an expensive point-and-shoot!
Ahhh yes, Nikon. I had a D40 ages ago, it was my love. Nothing else was as good. I've been thru Canon and FujiFilm and Nikon still remains my fave. Now I'm trying to make money selling my crocheted hats to buy a new cam!

Oh no! I am doomed whenever you make a new hat for I will be forced to make one as well. I am currently working on your Mermaid Tam and when I am done with that I will absolutely have to teach my self how to crochet and make this one

I used some Lion Brand Wool-ease for the hat and scarf. The scarf was just your basic zig-zag stitch. They all seem to be slightly different but this is the stitch pattern I followed:
Chain multiple of 13
Row 1: sk 3 ch, 4dc in next 4 ch, 3 dc in next ch, 5 dc in next 5 ch, *sk 2 ch, 5 dc in next 5 ch*, ch 3, turn
Row 2: sk 1 st, 4dc in next 4 sts, 3 dc in next st, 5 dc in next 5 sts, *sk 2 sts, 5 dc in next 5 sts, 3 dc in next st, 5 dc in next 5 sts*, on the last multiple end with 4 dc, sk 1 dc, 1 dc in turning ch, ch 3, turn
(Repeat row 2 till you get the length you want)

Awesome job! I love the colors you used for the hat and the scarf - also thanks for sharing your pattern for the scarf! I already had the hat saved in my favorites in Ravelry and after you posted this, I'm excited to get started making it! I'm making this hat for my cousin I think she will LOVE it!
The starghan is very cute too! I love the colors you used - reminds me of Bubble Yum watermelon bubble gum! Your pup is sooooo adorable!
Question: what size of hook did you use for your scarf?

Thanks! The scarf and hat were both made using an H hook. I'm a knitter first so my stash of hooks is really limited.

I have a question, what do you mean by "chain multiple of 13"?? I dont think I'm understanding it correctly...... is it just ch 13 then just make it however long you want it to be??

It means chain a multiple of 13 stitches.
13, 26, 39, 52, 65, 78, etc...those are all multiples of 13 (13 multiplied by any other number).

I have fought with the swirls cap pattern all weekend. I wish there was a stitch count on the brim. I've made the brim twice, and from looking at yours I think I have figured out what I am doing wrong. In a round about way I am saying thank you...
So... THANK YOU!
P.S. I figured out the row count for the brim if anyone else needs it!

I love that hat! I went to ravelry to get the pattern and she's no longer offering it.
Just my luck. Anyway, you did a great job on the hat, scarf and puppy blanket!

I also love all three pieces. The colors you picked are good choices. Your puppy looks so sweet.

Would it be possible for someone to pm me the swirls cap pattern as I'm having trouble downloading it as it seems to have a virus of some sort since my security won't let me download it. Thank you. I love the hat you made by the way. I hope I can do the same. I would love to make this for my daughter.
