Hi Everyone! This is my first post!!! Wahhoooo!

Anyway, I've been lurking for awhile and admiring everyone's creativity and talent, wishing I had the time to try my hand as well. That all changed when my company when out of business and I was hence laid off. So time was no longer a problem. I've thrown myself full-fledged into the sewing game and am really loving it! So here's the first project I ever created and actually gave to someone.

I took a Hawaiian shirt that my dad was going to throw away, removed the seams and pockets and turned it into a tote bag for my sister!

I worked with what I had: Black dress lining and white velcro. I'm still pretty happy with it. Since then, my stash has grown considerably Wink

Hope you like it! I'll be posting several more items from my first months of sewing. Any comments/criticism/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I like it! I wouldn't be caught dead wearing those shirts but it works as a tote! Someone around here said sometimes the ugliest clothes make the best bags. Great job re-using stuff. Smiley

I love the bag. That print is very nice. This is a great restyling idea. How sturdy is it?

I disagree with the first poster calling Hawiian shirts ugly.  Some look great.  My brother has some and they look great on him and he get compiments on them all the time.
