Several years ago a friend of mine's cat got ocular herpes which is in the same family as chicken pox, shingles and oral & genital herpes. This friend's sister gave him and the cat LOTS of grief about it, calling into question the cat's moral character.

You can see the scar on the lower right edge of her right eye.

Well, turns out this same sister contracted ocular herpes herself over the summer!  And my friend only found out through their mom.  Seems it's a very common virus, but turn about is fair play and he's been getting even on behalf of his cat.  Part of that is this birthday present which he commissioned from me.

He gave me the parameters of "penis shape, obvious chancre, and the phrase "I survived herpes. One day at a time."  I suggested making the "I" and eye.  Because she's not going to like it- like it and it's not the kind of statement one displays AND I don't like to think my work, even the simple, crude work, will be just thrown away, I made it into a lavender sachet.  That way she can throw it in a drawer and forget about it.

*falls over laughing*  That's awesome.  Both the story and the sachet.  I totally want a penis-shaped sachet for my underwear drawer now (crude= my middle name, haha).

Also, that cat is adorable.  I just want to snuggle her, eyeball herpes and all.

love it.  I have no clue how, but I've also contracted ocular Herpes in my right eye.  the herpes has scratched my cornea, so my eyesight is sh*tt*er that ever unfortunately.  We think I may have gotten it from my mom, as she has shingles, and works with people who have shingles and was dosing me with eye drops around the time I contracted it...

Love the sachet.  May make one for myself...mom would get a kick out of it!

Thanks! I almost put into my descri[ption "not herr underwear drawer."  The cat is not the cuddliest of felines, but I enjoy snuggling on her while she struggles to get away.

I want to point out that not all, nor even most, of my crafts involve a phallus.  Ahem.

Ha!  Smiley Nicely done.

Thank you, ma'am!  I actually stitched it twice, because I hated the first one.

Wow.  Thanks!  I was kind of nervous that this would offend someone afflicted and was on the fence about posting it.  When I read up just the littlest bit on ocular herpes, I realized it could be quite serious and I'm sorry to hear about your scratched cornea, even though that's not how it's being treated here.  (Of course, she's treating it seriously). We've heard that it can be dormant and then pop up when given the chance just like shingles is always there if you've had chicken pox.  I hope you'll share if you make one!

Aw, shucks.  Thanks!  I was lucky that I just happened to have a fat quarter of that tie-dye-looking purple-y fabric which worked out great for this (and is more vibrant than the near-dusk lighting in the photo suggests).

Ocular herpes is no laughing matter, but your gift sure is! I hope she takes it in good humor, and how creative to make a sachet out of it!

Great job as always!

Thank you!  At one point during the process, I was feeling pretty awkward about making this for her as it's in my best interest not to alienate her, but he assured me she has a great sense of humor.  She also has a solid sense of justice and realizes she's just getting what she dished out.

The lavender in the sachet is from a swap package and smells GREAT.

Thanks! Now I'm sorry I teased my own cat when he had tapeworms.
