This cake is made from dark chocolate mud cake, covered with dark chocolate ganache and then with vanilla flavoured fondant. Details are done with modelling paste. My friend add a pair of sunglasses and a bling bling key ring on the night of the party. She told me that several times she had to stop people from "picking up the bag" to have a closer look at it!LOL

Wow! What a great trompe loile cake! From the thumbnail on the front page I wasn't sure if it was a real purse or not, but I sure wouldn't have guessed a cake!

This does look amazingly real!

I was wondering why anyone would remake a Chanel bag and put it on here, as crafster is not about the big labels... while loading I thought it might be a mini-bag for a doll or such... but a cake?  Shocked

Amazing!

Wow. I thought it was made out of clay from the thumbnail, but cake is even better. It looks so real.

Is this the one from the Planet Cake book? I bought that book last holidays when I was in Sydney. I have never done fondant cakes before so I am going to use the book to learn how.

Yes that book rocks! I desperately want to go and do one of their weekend courses, but the price tag is  bit steep for me. BTW they sell this cake and other's similar to it for $AU600! Not what I charge I might add.
You simply must try the fondant thing, especially the way Planet Cake do theirs; with the ganache. I have been doing fondant decorated cakes for years now, and I'm all for ways that don't use marzipan. It's yucky, and spoils an otherwise yummy cake.
