I have never been the best with colours. I'm making my grad dress this year and I don't have much of an idea for colours yet. I plan to scope out material before, but I have two ideas in mind of colours I wouldn't mind. I have blue eyes and red hair. I'm just wondering how these colours would work. Would they look good? Would they accentuate the colour of my eyes/hair? Or would they just look horrible?

This is my hair colour using natural light with the help of flash. (Best picture I could find, so don't mind the shot. I needed a length shot for something else)

And here are the two colours:
First is a blue like this:

The second is the purple dress:

Any other suggestions of what would look good? I'm looking for a darker colour like those two, not pastels or anything.

Jewel tones. I love a dark-ish teal on red heads with blue eyes. The blue is good because it will make your eyes pop. The purple might be too bright for how bright your hair is already. Try more of a mauve-y eggplant-y purple.

Your hair color is truly stunning. I don't know that the blue or purple that you've pictured would look the best on you though. I too love the idea of a rich green or if you'd like to do a purple I second the eggplant. Since you seem rather fair as well I'd definitely stick to a rich deep, jewel color.

Stop being so damned positive. Staring at the sun only blinds some one. By only looking at the positive, you miss an entire beautiful world of shadows and colors. Don't be overly negative, be realistic. The world is so much more complex and beautiful that way.

I'm on the green train too!
I love when people with red hair wear green...like poison ivy from Batman!

I think the blue would be fabulous, and the suggestions for green or teal sound great, too, but then, those are my favorite colors.  My mother (who has red hair) looks great in teal, turquoise, and corals.  She looks ill in black so I'm glad that's not on your list.  I don't think I've ever seen her wear the shade of purple you posted, though.

I agree with everyone that said green, not Atonement dress green but a rich green, maybe a 'nice' olive. I will go amazingly well with your hair!

Sounds strange but why don't you ask for samples and take photos of them, next to your skin and hair and then pick the one you like best!

Good luck!!

I also have red hair and blue eyes, and people always like me best in dark teal. Anything in the blue to green range of jewel tones would be great. Also chocolate brown would work. I also love purple, but it isn't the best color on me.

Jewel tones for sure, but try a really warm and bright cerise/pink - I'm the same colouring as you and it's very flattering on me.
