I am very new at sewing in general, I just made my first doll for the 13 days of Halloween swap that I am in and I am pretty proud in how it as I am a beginner.  I can't divulge any details as of yet because my partner can't open her package until the 20th.  I love trying new crafts, so I am gonna sign up and try my best to make a good doll.

I think I'm just going to go for it, this is clearly the month for first times as I'm already taking part in the mini art quilt swap.. having never made a quilt before, so why not this aswell. Ive made stuffies before so I know the basics of doll construction so fingers crossed Smiley Now to fill in my questionaire.

Alright - we're up to 12 swappers.

Many of us, myself included, are not super-experienced in sock doll making but I do make dolls and I have been sewing for eons.

I like swaps with alot of new-ish crafters trying that particular craft. It makes the gallery very interesting and I have found in the dotee swaps, that newbies are super motivated and creative - they don't follow the rules necessarily because they don't know them. And that makes for interesting doll-making. Yippee!!

Yippee indeed!

I can't wait... sock creations and stuffies are one of my favs to make and get. The wonkier the better in my opinion- things don't necessarily need to match either. I've seen 'matchy matchy' and 'bend all the rules see the stitching' and both turn out great.

I made a sock monkey at a Burning Man Sock Monkey Camp (Hot Monkey Socks shout out) this year and all they had for thread was yarn and there were some really awesome monkies that had the yarn right out there for all to see and they were some of the best monkies I've seen.

In the end (in my opinion) it's pretty darn hard to make a sock creation that's not cute...

Oh this sounds like so much fun! I used to make sock dolls all the time before college stole my life. I would love to get back into this craft. Sending in my info now!  Grin

Grin Hehehe... I hope I get into this swap. I've never made a sock doll before, but I have made a more intricate doll before, so I've got my skills down. I've also got socks and a HUGE stash of fabrics. I have a few questions about it tho.

I know we're supposed to keep store bought items to a minimum, but can we use some like any buttons or beads or things that we already have?

Can we use little pieces of fabric other than socks to add some more character?

I really want to get in and go all out.  Cheesy I just got feedback on my second swap, and I'm SO ready to do another.  Cheesy
