so, this year i'm going as a chickadee (bird nerd alert.) so far i've managed to whip this up out of some fleece i got a joanns.  it was the only fabric there that was grey and was textured.  it'll work out fine though since it's kinda cold here on halloween anyway. i'm having some trouble figuring out what to do with the front closure and was wondering if you folks had any suggestions.  chickadees have white bellies so i was thinking about having a button closure at the top and rounding out the bottom corners so it shows off the white dress i'm wearing underneath.

the bigger question is what to do with the back. right now it billows out kinda like an opera cape and i think i want it to be a little more fitted. any suggestions on how to do that?

thanks for the help! enjoy!

No help I'm afraid, but that is awesome! I'd wear that all year round, just the way it is! Cheesy

that's such a cute costume Smiley i think maybe two darts on the front (one on either side of the zipper) and two darts in the back would help make it more fitted.

That is so cute! I'd say put two big darts in the back, but it might restrict your arm motion. Maybe if you put a snap or two along the seams of each side with corresponding snaps on the dress? I think that your idea for the front sounds good!

I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it.

very cute, and very well made  Grin  I agree with Phizzychick- you could use it as a short jacket when not dressing up for Halloween.

thanks folks for the compliments!
i think i'll put some darts in the back on the sides so it keeps the back panel clean and neat. and maybe with the front trim it up a bit and put a nice button closure at the neck.

thanks for the help!

I don't figure you need any brainy contrabution at this point as you now have great ideas, but I just wanted to tell you how much I love your cape!  It's brilliant!

I'd dart the back and add a little tail feather action.  Wink It looks stupendous!
