I'm in desperate need of some lamp-making advice! I've been looking at Magic Spinning Lamps and really wanna make one of my own. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, here are some photos!
It's a cool night light that projects moving images on your wall. I know that it has a spinner with a printed design and a fan shape at the top that allows air heated by the bulb to travel upwards, causing the cylinder to spin. It also comes with a box screen that helps project the images.
What I need to know is what kinda materials to use and how to make the spinner spin. Will I need high-energy bulbs in order to get the air hot enough? Will I need very heat resistant material for the spinner? Does the spinner have to be a transparency-like material for the light to pass through and project images? Do I need a particular fan shape in order for the spinning to happen? How do I fix the spinner to allow it to spin freely?
I'm due to submit an idea for a competition and really wanna give this a go if it's at all possible to be cheaply produced. I've been looking online for tutorials but to no avail! If anyone knows of anywhere I can find a how-to please do share!
