My fav holiday is Halloween so I decided to make a crochet Haunted House, I contemplated painting it but I think I like the silouette look I just need to make a backdrop for it. Instead of stuffing it I used plastic canvas for support.
Here it is sitting with my lemax collection.
Ok everybody, after much thought and consideration as to how I would write the tut, here goes probably the worst tut ever
The house consists of many parts and they are sewn together as you would any project using plastic canvas. For this tut I am going to say assembly and size rather than crochet instructions because the crochet is the easy part.
I used red heart worsted black and an I hook and the crochet work was all single crochet and decreasing evenly to get the triangle and trapezoid shapes. My gauge was 7 stitches and 7 rows equaled 2 inches
This is the dimensions of the wall parts which I recommend making a paper mock up of with cardstock and tape
Main Walls: you need 2 7" x 6" rectangle
2 4" x 6" rectangle
Stick out in front: You need 3 2" x 7" rectangle
Stick out at side: You need 3 2" x 3" rectangle
You will want to cut out pieces of plastic canvas to match these dimensions as well as crochet the pieces to match. This next stuff is where it gets harder.
The roof pieces
Main Roof: you need 1 2" x 3 1/2" rectangle for top of roof
1 3 1/2" wide x 71/2" wide x 2" tall trapezoid (google is your friend)
1 3 1/2" wide x 7 1/2" wide x 2" tall trapezoid with a 2" x 1/2" notch
at the bottom in the middle to
(sorry can't spell) acommadate the front stick out
1 2" wide x 4 1/2" wide x 2 1/2" tall trapezoids
Side roof: you need 1 4" wide x 2" wide x 2" tall trapezoid
Front stick out: 4 2 1/2" wide x 1" wide x 2" tall trapezoids
1 1" x 1" square
These are all the parts that you need to make the house without a porch.
Porch
Porch floor: 1 2" x 2" square
3 1/2" x 2" rectangles
This assembles like a box with 3 sides
Porch roof: 1 2" x 2" square for the ceiling
3 1/2" x 2" rectangles just like floor
2 2" x 1 3/4" rectangles for roof slants
1 2" x point x 1" tall triangle (this is the piece that goes between the
ceiling parts and the roof)
Ok now is when you take a deep breath and question my sanity, then drink about 12
cups of coffee
If you cut out and crochet the pieces before you assemble I think that's better. Once you have
all of your pieces crocheted and cut out sew the crochet work to the canvas piece by peice. Once you have done that assemble the main house walls first. then assemble and connect the Front stickout. You will want to be sure that you are pushing the needle through the
crochet as well as the canvas to hide the seams. Next assemble the side stick out including the roof and attach to the side of the house.
At this point you should have the house without roof or porch.
Next assemble the main roof and attach leaving an overhang all the way around. Then assemble the stick out roof and attach.
The only thing left is the porch and the windows and door.
assemble the porch and attach to the bottom of stickout and the assemble the identical piece for the roof once you've done that attach the small triangle to the front side and then attach the roof angle pieces leaving a hangoff on the sides.
Hopefully now you have a house. For the windows and doors I used felt and sewed them on where I though they should be and the columns are black straws hot glued to the ceiling and porch.
Well, there it is. I so hope that everyone can follow my madness. using the images for reference and the written part I think a repro could be made.
