So I went to American Apparel to look for shiny silvery things for my halloween costume (don't worry, i am sewing most of it myself, but that is another post for another day), and saw some leggings with zippers running up the legs. Of course their leggings cost $52 (US), which is a whole heap of crap. I ended up not buying anything at the store cuz I can make all of it myself.

And for some reason I really wanted some zippery leggings. I know that they are weird, but the little punk i have hiding deep within me was like "Metal! Zippery goodness! Badass! I must have them!" So I bought some thrift store Leggings and some zippers, and in about half an hour i had them! yay!

and of course they can be unzipped, for fun.

and here is the original inspiration:

The zippers on mine don't go all the way to the waist, but that's fine as i don't intend to wear them as pants. The will be worn under sexy or edgy dresses and skirts.

Those look awesome! Great job. As soon as I saw these I instantly thought the same thing as you,  haha:)
How did you get the zipper to go on so smoothly? Every zipper I sew becomes really wavy.

well, i first sewed them by stretching the fabric to as stretched out as it would be on me, and the zippers were all wavy. So then i sewed them again leaving the fabric unstretched, and i set the presser foot pressure to 1 on my machine, so the fabric didn't get all stretched as i sewed. they aren't perfect by any means, there is a little wavyness at the knees, but it ain't no thang.

I know i've been planning to get some leggings and mod them to no end. I cant believe the prices on leggings with zippers, even the ones just at the ankle.

I was just in American Apparel today, completely appalled at their prices for items that were basically pieces of fabric, so I am 100% admiring this project and I am super tempted to try it myself. You did a great job - I know that if I did this, my zippers would be hideous.

Thanks! i got the shoes at buffalo exchange, which is a used clothing store. but the brand is breckelle's, and maybe you could find them  online?

and the tattoo is a prickly pear cactus. i knit some gloves in exchange for the tat. crafting is magical currency.
