 Grin I feel accomplished!!
i couldn't resist making this bag for one more day, so i decided i would make one even though i don't own a sewing machine. so i hand sewed it.. it took me about 5 hours since i am not very good with sewing. i am so proud of it. i am waiting on a cute applique to finish it off.. i thought i would share pictures... i only have a webcam.. but i will take proper photos soon.
please pay no attention to the messy desk. i used the flap tutoral from somewhere else on craftster.. and it has a flap!! and a snap... what more could i ask for?

i plan on making alot more.. but i am going to hold out for a sewing machine ... 5 hours is too long hahaha...

new sewing machine + discovering craftster.org =

the material for the bag  was a shirt in it's previous life. i had been waiting and waiting for a sewing machine and the perfect bag pattern to reincarnate it! it's done, i even have enough material left over to make another bag or two.

thanks jordy.   Kiss

for the padded bag try  batting - they sell it in the quilt department and as it's made for padding quilts it should be easier to sew. it comes in iron on or sew in, and in varying thicknesses.

as for the cardboard question - i don't know if anyone has tried that but i know a few people have used needlepoint canvas. good luck!

ok, im just now reading the thread all the way through, i must say GREG your stuf is FAB!!! and also, when i went on my making spree the other night, i have to say i used jean and a cotton material, jean on the outside, and if i made the bags a bit taller the jean holds up well, as it is so thick.
and i also made one with old "lazy boy" fabric samples that was a fun colored one, ill post them as soon as i get my web shots acct.figured out!
but the jean looks good and i didnt use interfacing.
just my morning coffee in hand, in put!

First off I just want to thank Jordy for this WONDERFUL tutorial! I have used this pattern for so many bags and I love it! Here's my latest (and best.. if I do say so myself). I'm giving it to my friend Jen for her birthday. I hope she likes it!

the bag again (instead of one strap I did two):

the lining.. it's just a soft yellow color:
